Participation: Summer Workshop Series 2015 – Persian Dance
Shahrzad Khorsandi, the San Francisco-based Persian master dancer, visited Colorado on her tour in an arrangement with Inventing Earth, The Persian Cultural Circle, and other local dance studios. In addition to workshops for the general public, Shahrzad also gave a one-week teacher-training intensive for heads of studios and other advanced dance practitioners. Eight Colorado-based professional and semi-professional dancers participated. Dance studios in Boulder, Broomfield, and Longmont hosted events. The workshops culminated in a showcase performance for the public, hosted by The Persian Cultural Circle in Boulder on August 22, 2015.
Shahrzad Khorsandi is the author of a recently released volume, The Art of Persian Dance, which is the first book to establish a formal pedagogy for teaching the principles of Persian dance.
Shokufeh, an ensemble formed with a core of dancers that participated in Shahrzad’s intensive, is now working together to develop a Persian-inspired dance practice based in part on Shahrzad’s training technique. Shokufeh means “blossom” in the Persian language.
