About the show
Mary Lin collects and assembles broken and discarded, torn and frayed artifacts of culture and assembles them in dreamscapes that reflect the passage of time and the progression of cultural forms. Her work teems with symbols and haunting evocations of the archetypes that populate our psyche and institutions. These include religion; the pursuit of scientific knowledge; family and industry; our personal and cultural relationships with nature and power; the nature of mind; and ultimately, commentary on how we construct a a sense of ourselves.
About Mary Lin
As well as being a visual artist, Mary is an opera singer, librettist, composer, designer, and producer. This show of Tyme Machinnes reflects the "steampunk" aesthetic and indeed its creation served as a meditation on the production for Mary's second opera, Queen Victoria's Floating Garden of Secrets and Natural Wonders. Mary composes and produces in collaboration with Ben Sargent. The two debuted the first act of Queen Victoria in the Boston area last September and are now working towards completion of the opera and 2012 productions of the show.
