An Inventing Earth Manifesto\x3c/div\x3e\x0a                \x0a                \x0a                \x3cdiv class=\x22tumblr_body\x22\x3e\x0a                    \x3cp\x3e\x3cspan\x3e \x3c/span\x3e\x3c/p\x3e\x0a\x3cp\x3eSteampunk returns the modern psyche to the Romantic era, where the Industrial Age is still in full gear. Science and technology are seen as dazzling hopes for humanity, even while artists and philosophers continue to react to the evils of industrialism with the Rousseau-inspired idealization of nature carried over from the Enlightenment of the previous centuries.\x3c/p\x3e\x0a\x3cp\x3eIn modern times, we realize that science and technology industries have perpetuated great wrongs, particularly against nature, with in some cases dire, unintended consequences. Steampunk takes us back to a time of greater innocence and idealism, to those moments when decisions could have been made to move the fate of the earth and humanity in a different direction. Steampunk allows the psyche to get it right; to blend art and science towards a more harmonious result.\x3c/p\x3e\x0a\x3cp\x3eSteampunk also empowers the individual to give it a go, to make their own contribution to the good of the whole. In the Victorian era, science was practiced in the main by individual and small groups of observers and experimenters, generally, we imagine, with a grand sense of adventure. Think Admiral Perry at the pole; Charles Darwin and HMS Beagle\u2019s journey to Galapagos; archaeological excavations of Pompeii and the Great Pyramid in Egypt; and perhaps more to the point, the science fiction of the time, offering us Jules Verne navigating the Nautilus through the dangerous deeps.\x3c/p\x3e\x0a\x3cp\x3eRead the entire article here:\u00a0\x3ca href=\x22/page/why-steampunk\x22\x3e\x3ca href=\x22/page/why-steampunk\x22\x3e/page/why-steampunk\x3c/a\x3e\x3c/a\x3e\x3c/p\x3e\x0a                \x3c/div\x3e\x0a            \x3c/li\x3e\x0a        \x0a\x0a        \x0a\x0a        \x0a\x0a        \x0a        \x0a        \x0a        \x0a        \x0a\x0a                        \x0a    \x0a\x3c/ol\x3e\x3cscript src=\x22http://assets.tumblr.com/assets/scripts/tumblelog.js?_v=a9e2d0b0ade5958a1a2a936adf448061\x22\x3e\x3c/script\x3e\x3cmeta name=\x22keywords\x22 content=\x22art,technology,science,history,Steampunk\x22 /\x3e');
