Oma Dance Theatre
Why is it important for us to tell the stories of our communities and elders? Oma Dance Theatre seeks to answer this question. Inventing Earth  is seeking three interns to help develop this important cultural project. Preference will be given to multidisciplinary artists who can work at a professional or near-professional level in several of the following areas:
  • WRITERS to interview elders and collect Grandmother Stories, and to help turn them into scripts for performance
  • THEATRE ARTISTS to help create costumes, props, and puppets who will be members of the Oma Dance Theatre repertory of characters
  • PERFORMERS who are gifted modern and contemporary dancers/movers, preferably able to write and/or sing and/or collaborate in the plastic theatre arts -set, costume, etc.
All three internships offer flexible time frame, duration, and total hours and can be tailored to meet specific educational goals for students currently pursuing degrees in related areas.
Please also, if you are applying for an Oma internship, as part of your application please join the Oma group and contribute a grandmother story,

No, absolutely not, Gwen! Who better, after all, to write and collect Grandmother Stories, than an Elder?

More details:

To apply for an internship, please email me at outlining your time availability in the next six to nine months, where you live, and how an internship would fit into your educational and career goals. Please also tell us which of the internships sounds most interesting to you and how your training and experience has prepared you for the proposed internship.

Mary, because many of our potential interns are students, we are offering that students work with us to craft a time frame in the next six to nine months that fits with their coursework and educational goals. That means that we are flexible.  We will give preference to folks that can complete their internships sooner rather than later.  Rather than putting a time frame around the internship, we're focusing on completing certain tasks with the interns, that they can be proud to have completed and that will give each a boost in their professional careers. That being said, when would you be available and what kind of time committment could you make?
